Stamp Duty increase

The thresholds at which you start paying Stamp Duty are changing in April 2025

As of the 1st April 2025, the thresholds that you start paying Stamp Duty will be reverting to what they were previously before the current temporary higher threshold was introduced.

  • Currently Stamp Duty isn't paid by first-time buyers on the first £425,000 of their purchase. After 1st April 2025 you will pay £6,250 in Stamp Duty.
  • Everyone else buying a new home over £250,000 will pay an extra £2,500 Stamp Duty from April 2025.

So, if you’re looking to move and want to beat the stamp duty increase, it is essential to have completed your new home purchase by 31st March 2025.
